Desde sus inicios a finales de la década de los 70's, GLAD ha sido en gran parte de su carrera una banda de rock-pop cristiana. Sin embargo, en 1980 incluirían el tema acapella "The Reason" en su producción "Beyond Star", lo que marcaría un precedente de lo que vendría mas tarde. En 1988, el quinteto lanza "The Acapella Proyect" conviertiéndose en un éxito de ventas con más 400.000 copias. Es evidente que el éxito conseguido cambió el rumbo de la banda motivando nuevos proyectos como "Acapella Proyect II" (1990) y "Acapella Gershwin" (1995) respectivamente. "Acapella Hymns" (1993) viene a ser parte de esta serie producciones.
